My mother is on my mind

Mom My mother had a wonderful time this past summer at her 70th birthday party. She met her great-granddaughter Felicity and was happy to be almost 5 years cancer free after a bout with breast cancer.

Just this week she was diagnosed with secondary cancer, bone cancer, and has already started radiation therapy. The working theory is that some of the breast cancer cells broke free of the breast tumor 5 years ago and set up camp in her spine. She is undergoing tests to determine where else the cancer may have spread. She is in good spirits despite the back pain and radiation therapy.

I've spent a lot of time with my mother in the hospital this week. She is a couple hours away from here, in Syracuse. The time I can spend in the blogosphere is greatly reduced, I'll post when I can.

NY Yankees logo The good news is that I can take down the Red Sox logo in my sidebar tomorrow. Suldog bet me that the Red Sox would have a better season than the Yankees. He won, so I had to post a Red Sox logo on the top of my sidebar for a week. It feels like it's been there for a year. Stu lost the bet because he spotted me 4 games. He has put a giant Yankees logo on his blog, he has to keep it there for a month. The bet has been lots of fun, except for the losing part. Thanks Suldog and Stu, did you know I'm a Buffalo Bills fan? I'm not betting though.

Thanks I'd like to give DeeJay a big THANK YOU for creating the All-A-Color Week for her readers to play along with this week. It was lots of fun DeeJay.

Your Top Ten

CongratulationsBecause I'm a geek, I do weird things. Tonight I went to every blog that I'm subscribed to in Google Reader. When I got to a blog I looked for their blogroll. If I found it I cut and paste it into Microsoft Excel.

When I was all done I sorted the entire list (1906 bloggers) to see who was the most blogrolled person on my blogroll's blogrolls. Got it?

Without further adieu, here are the most popular bloggers in my part of the blogosphere:

1) No surprise here, every-one's favorite blogger and inspirational writer: Daisy of Lazy Daisy Log
I'm a registered nurse, married to a minister. We work at a ministry called, "Equipping The Saints". I am an empty nester with grown children who have scattered over the country and into Canada. I write for my own amusement and for future record of past achievements, antidotes, and a bit of home-spun and whimsy.

2) The second blogger is all purple and is a supporter of many causes: craziequeen of craziequeen's palace
I'm Queen of the Crazies living somewhere in the UK with my CrazieCats and my non-Crazie Much Beloved.

3) The third blogger is the inventor of the blogging meet & greet and a consummate hostess: Michele of Michele
The lovely thing about being me is that I am so damn good at it.

4) The fourth blogger is a world traveler, photographer and connoisseur: mar of maremagnum
Transplanted Chilean-Spanish, living in Barcelona-Spain with German housemates. "mar" is short for marmalade, marble, maritime...any other contributions?---- ............. "I have never been aware before how many faces there are. There are quantities of human beings, but there are many more faces, for each person has several." Rainer Maria Rilke---- . . I sometimes also update my photoblog

5) The fifth blogger is a mother of five children who manages to fit in a little blogging on the side: Jennifer of ...a work in progress
...A Work in Progress...juggling motherhood, marriage, family, and friends...trying to figure out who I am and who God wants me to be...looking for joy in the little things around me

6) The sixth blogger is followed around the world by her readers: captain lifecruiser of Lifecruiser
Hi, I’m Mrs Lifecruiser. The twinkle in my eyes and laugh is never far away, so do not take anything I write too seriously!!!

7) The seventh blogger is another world traveler: Carmen of Gone to Plaid
Spanning the globe for idiot-free locations

8) The eighth blogger keeps us all in stitches: Melli of Insanity Prevails
I'm 50 years old. I've been married to my hubby for ... WOW! 21 years! I'm Mom to 4 great kids - 2 girls, 2 boys - and I'm SOON to BE a 1st time Grandma!!! Little Luz Estrella will be coming right after Thanksgiving!

9) The ninth blogger is the technowiz of the blogosphere: Uisce of Whiskey Talking
Welcome, friends old and new!

10) The tenth blogger is a new school teacher and pink aficionado: Killired of Killired
i'm married to a sheriff deputy for 13 years... we have 3 young, vivacious and rambunctious boys ages 4, 6 and 7. i used to blog all the time but when i went back to school i was too busy to blog... now i'm teaching full time, working on my inquiry project and graduating in december with my masters in education! i cannot wait!!!!

These are the bloggers who showed up most in your blogrolls. A stellar top 10.

Which of these bloggers are on your blogroll?

Here is my pink picture for DeeJay's All-A-Color Week. Thursday is Pink Day!

These snow monkeys are residents of Central Park in NYC. My son watched these monkeys play for three hours, he was fascinated by them. We had to drag him away.

This is a limited time offer

Treescape
Here is my green picture for DeeJay's All-A-Color Week. Wednesday is Green Day!

All the neighbors wonder how I grow these hostas so large. I think I just bought a variety that grows large and planted them in the right spot. All I really do with them is ignore them. They are good for attracting hummingbirds too.

Sister Celtic posted a green picture today and so did DeeJay. Tomorrow is pink day. It's National Breast Cancer Awareness Month and tomorrow is the perfect day to show off a pink picture. This is a limited time offer. There are only two days left!

The color assignments for the week are:

Monday is Red
Tuesday is Purple
Wednesday is Green
Thursday is Pink
Friday is Blue

P.S. Sister Celtic is going wild! She posted lots more green pics. Check them out here and here.

Tuesdays Take Flight
Rhea Mae 2007
Followers of the Kodak falcons have been blessed this year. One of the fledges from the 2006 season, regal Rhea Mae, has found a new home. She now roosts with her new mate Tiago in Toronto, Canada. She and Tiago occupy a nest on the Sheraton Hotel. Lucky for us there is a camera and a watcher who sends watch reports. Falcons face a high mortality rate their first year of life. It is so gratifying to know that one of our fledges is alive and well.

Reader Appreciation Day - Oct 7

readerappreciation

Thank you to all the readers who comment and read here, I appreciate every one of you.

I really appreciate the readers that commented here the most:
This week three readers tied for the most comments.
This is J. Andrew Lockhart's third time featured here. He's a wonderful friend and blogger, soon to be published author. I'm honored that he reads here.
JAndrew

Jean-Luc Picard writes great fiction for all those fans who (like me) miss the television series Star Trek: The Next Generation. Jean-Luc will bring all the characters back to life for you and he puts them in hilarious situations sometimes. He's a gifted writer, enjoyable even if you're not a Star Trek fan.
Jean-luc

WorksForMom used to be a software engineer, loves photography and is a Mom. Sound familiar? She writes a great blog over at What Works For Us. It's full of useful tips and information that work for her, and can work for you. She writes great comments too!

A Beautiful Swan and the Yankees

PSHunt
mute swan

Curvy is this week's Photo Hunt theme and I think this swan fits the bill.

In other news:

I've been busy watching the Yankees in the division play-offs. Unfortunately they are down 2 - 0, the good news is they will be in Yankee Stadium on Sunday.

The bet with Suldog still needs to be decided. Suldog decides to go on vacation right during the playoffs. He will have to put the Yankees logo on his blog when he gets back. Did you see what he told his readers to do?

I am therefore giving you my proxy, loyal reader. Please feel free to go to Barbara's place and say "In your FACE, Yankee Woman! Derek Jeter eats old smelly bananas! A-Rod is a poopy pants! And Clemens? Ooh! Ooh! Ooh! I got your rocket right here, Roger!!!"

The Bet - Another Update

yankeesRed Sox fan, Stu Mark has graciously put a giant Yankees logo on his blog. Stu bet me that the Red Sox would best the Yankees by four games this season, and they did not. He posted a beautiful Yankees logo. Go take a look.
The bet continues with Suldog. If the Yankees do better than the Red Sox in the post season Suldog posts a Yankee logo on his blog for a week. If the reverse is true I post a red Sox logo on my blog. Oh, that hurts just thinking about it. Poor Stu, at least that Yankee logo dresses up his blog a bit.
