The K - O of Me

This alphabet meme is so much easier broken up into 5 letters a day.

K - Kids & Their Names? Brian

L - Life Is Incomplete Without? Besides my family, my answer would include: the internet, coffee, Good Morning America, warm pajamas, books and tea.

M - Marriage Date? August 23, 1986

N- Number Of Siblings? 4 sisters

O - Oranges Or Apples? They are both so good. Apples are grown in these parts. Going to a cider mill was a treat each year while growing up.

exercise I got my 15 minutes of exercise done on the treadmill. I watched Divine Design with Candice Olson at the same time. I love that show, I especially like the theme song.

I want to thank everyone who comes here often to leave a comment. I used to exercise very regularly and I really should get back to that. Since I pledged to do it I've done it every day. Another blogger joins in the exercising for comments craze every day. First Sunflower , then Veronika, and then DeeJay joined over at Veronika's. Today LadyBugCrossing says she will take the pledge too. Maybe someone can make us a blog button to throw on our sidebars or something. Maybe you'll join us tomorrow, hopefully you'll leave us a comment.

Modify the pledge below to fit your preferences.

Blogger Pledge

The F to J of Me

F - Favorite Color? Yellow
G - Gummy Bears Or Worms? I’m going to go with the Bears, although I’m not a big fan of either.
H - Hometown? Canastota, NY
I - Indulgence? Blogging
J - January Or February? Hmmm, January is longer, February has Valentine’s Day, January is easier to spell, and February has leap year. I don’t know… it’s a toss up.

I finished my 20 minutes on the treadmill.

Veronika did her jump roping. Guess what, one of Veronika's readers took the pledge! DeeJay needs some blogger love to get jump started on her exercise plan!

SunFlower hasn't posted with her exercise total yet, maybe she needs a few more comments.

Thanks for all the support! I wouldn't be doing it without you guys!
Thursday night, about 9:00: I'm going to go do 15 minutes on the treadmill! Thanks everyone!

The A-E of Me

I'm doing so much exercise that I don't have time for the whole alphabet! I'll continue with some more letters tomorrow.

A - Available/Single? Not yet, my husband's still putting up with me!

B - Best Friend? yes

C - Cake or Pie? Love them both!

D - Drink Of Choice? Coke, except I cut way, way back because of how the phosphorous leeches all the calcium out of my bones. Damn phosphorous.

E - Essential Item You Use Everyday? My treadmill. I knew there must be a way to work in how I will exercise for comments in here somehow.

exercise Have you eliminated exercise because it interferes with your blogging schedule? Are you becoming a blog potato? If you can answer yes to either of these questions make an exercise pledge with me. Modify the pledge below to fit your preferences.

Only you can keep me healthy...

exercise I exercised my 23 minutes on the treadmill today, I watched "Deal or No Deal" to keep my mind occupied. You might have thought that while I was already on the tradmill I could stay on for a few more minutes and make an even half hour. But no, I have totally abdicated the amount of exercise I do over to the readers of this blog. So I watched some guy turn down $218,000 dollars and end up with $10 instead, while I sitting on the couch. I did 23 minutes and not a minute more.

Thanks to all who are commenting, and those adding extra minutes to their work-outs.

Great news! Veronika has taken the pledge. Hurry on over and get her back on the workout path. Sunflower will be exercising for comments too. I am so grateful to have some blog buddies to exercise with.

Please join us in exercising for comments. You can add some time to your current routine if you already exercise, or just show some support for your fellow bloggers. Every little bit helps.

Did you know that the average person eats 35,000 cookies in their lifetime?
11/28/06: 8:07 PM - 26 comments tonight. Thanks everyone. I'll be back later.

Do I have to spot you some comments?

Looks like I'll be on the treadmill for 23 minutes tonight. I definitely need a longer workout. Do you realize the girl scouts dropped off cookies here? Did you know my son still has Halloween candy left? I need more comments!!! Thanks to all the people below who left me a comment.

Many thanks to Sunflower who is going to exercise for comments too. Go on over and make her work!

Thanksgiving Tradition

xmastree We have our Christmas tree up already. We put it up on Thanksgiving day. We have enough ornaments for three trees, and we use them all on one. My favorite ornaments are the ones we pick up while on vacation. The conversation always turns to the good times we had on that trip. We also have a few memorial ornaments to help us remember the happy times with those not here anymore. Enjoying these remembrances with my family is a wonderful way to enjoy the Thanksgiving holiday.

Are there any special ornaments on your tree?

Black Friday

The alarm clock said 6:24 AM. I hurried through my morning routine to get to Walgreens by 7:00 AM. I figured all the shoppers would be at the toy stores and Walgreens would be ignored. I arrived in the parking lot at 6:57 AM and grabbed the last parking spot in the lot. The line outside the door must have had 100 people in it. I started wishing I wore sunglasses and a hat. I felt fairly ridiculous waking up early to shop at Walgreens. I just had to have it though, the door-buster item that drew me to the store.

I was in line for only a moment when the doors opened. I didn't know what aisle to look in. I started passing people with one in their carts. Finally I asked someone where they found it and they pointed to a Walgreens employee reaching up on the top shelf to pull them down for the shoppers. When my turn came up I got the fiftieth and last one. It only cost $10!

The first Black Friday I've participated in and I was successful. Did you go shopping? Did you get anything good?

Thanksgiving Most Unusual

Thanksgiving

Most people in America spend Thanksgiving with their family and friends. It’s a wonderful holiday, a calm period before the frenzy of the December holidays.

One Thanksgiving was different than all the rest for me. It was in the early 1990’s, before my son was born. We lived about 100 miles from my family, about 200 miles from my husband’s family. My husband went on a trip a few days before Thanksgiving, returning to his mother’s house on Thanksgiving Day. I was invited to be with him of course, but I didn’t want to drive there and back by myself. I could have traveled to my family’s celebration, but for some reason I opted out. I spent the day with my two cats, Tessa and Simon.

Thanksgiving dinner is usually served around 2:00 p.m. in my family. I took a slice of turkey out of the refrigerator at 2:00. I gave half a slice of turkey to each cat, patted them on the head and wished them a Happy Thanksgiving. There was no cooking, no dishes, it was very peaceful and I enjoyed it.

Did you ever spend Thanksgiving in an unusual way?

Where are all the bloggers going?

I've been blogging for over a year now. During that time I've seen some bloggers build up a good following, then disappear or cut way back on their blogging.

For a great description of blogger burnout, look here. For all you new bloggers out there, be forewarned, blogging exacts a price.

Goldfish are Expensive

My son got his first goldfish six years ago. He named it Sea King. Sea King nearly died a few days after we brought him home, we saved him from the grave with the help of the internet and frozen peas. I read that if you soak uncooked frozen peas in warm water for a few minutes, and then squeeze the pulp out of the shell, the pulp of the pea is suitable for goldfish consumption. It is also therapeutic for their digestive system. So Sea King had a steady diet of peas and he survived. Four other goldfish a couple of months joined him later. We lost two of them in a tragic vacation mishap a few months ago. Three of the fish are still alive after six years. They have all grown quite a bit, but Sea King is the largest. He is now twelve inches long. The goldfish have outgrown their twenty-gallon tank, so today we went shopping for a larger aquarium. We bought a fifty-eight gallon tank that we will give to our son on Christmas. The tank was very expensive, especially for fish that cost about thirty-five cents each. I hope they survive the transfer to the new aquarium.

Some people's art...

book
I volunteered to help the art department at my son's school. They want to digitize all their art pictures and I happen to have a scanner. One of the art teachers said she would leave an art book at the front desk for me. I went and picked it up the other day. I wasn't quite expecting "Forms of Passion" as the first book. I have to hide it when my son's around.

I got a flu shot the other day. After the nurse gave me the shot, I sat there waiting for her to put the little round band aid on my arm. She just looked at me and said that I could go now. So I left, bandage-less. I wondered if my health care provider was trying to save money on band-aids.

I voted the other day. After I completed my duty as a citizen I exited the voting booth. There was a lady there who gave me an "I Voted Today" sticker. I wondered why the government was spending money on stickers.

Perhaps my health care provider and the government should team up and I could vote and get my flu shot at the same time. Then I could get an "I Voted Today" band aid.

The bane of my existence....

I just never seem to catch up on the laundry. When I put it in the washer I don't remember to take it out and put it in the dryer. When I finally remember to dry it, I forget to take it out of the dryer. Everything ends up wrinkled, so I can't just hang clothes up, I'm forced to iron. Since this cycle takes so long I am always hopelessly behind on the laundry.

What is your least favorite chore?

What was your first job?

I did a whole bunch of babysitting when I was a teenager, but the first real job I ever had was when I was almost 18 years old. I worked as a cafeteria worker in a corporate cafeteria. My memory fails me, so I don't remember the name of the corporation or the name of the cafeteria company.

One of my first duties was making sandwiches. I guess I didn't get enough training because there were complaints right off the bat. I was making sandwiches the same way I had made them all my life, with just a little bit of meat. If a customer wanted roast beef, no problem, one slice of roast beef coming up. I even got into trouble with my own lunches!

After the lunch crowd was fed it was time for the cafeteria folks to eat lunch. I would always get a paper plate for my lunch instead of a real plate, until I got yelled at for it. My boss asked me why I was using paper products and I told him it was because I didn't want to make any extra dishes to clean. The guy who washed dishes and I had become friends, he washed so many dishes I just didn't want to create any extra. Well, apparently that was the wrong answer, so there were no more paper products for me.

I went from that job on to college, never working in a cafeteria again. What was your first job? How did you like it?
