Trying to Catch Up

Once again I'm a little behind the eight ball. My son is having a sleepover birthday party this weekend, 13 to 14 boys are coming. We spent today tidying up the yard. I planted some ornamental peppers around the lamp post to replace the dead marigolds. I weeded everything and cut the dead parts out of some plants and bushes. Tomorrow will be much worse.

I will tackle the basement tomorrow night. I put a bunch of my Dad's papers down there after he died in November. Then I switched offices at work last February and brought home six years worth of "important" papers, I was going to bring them to my new office, but that didn't happen. They are in the basement instead. But that's not all! My husband made me clear all the stuff out of our home office last spring because we put in a new rug and painted the walls. I moved some of the more important stuff back into the office, the rest I put in the basement. But wait folks, my mom downsized from a house to an apartment and I took some of the overflow. Guess where it is.

So the party is Saturday, it's supposed to be a pool party, but the forecast keeps showing more and more rain for Saturday. We think the boys will probably be spending a lot of time in the basement. My son wants me to clean up my stuff. I don't want a bunch of eleven year olds going through my stuff. So the job I've been dreading for months must get done. Why didn't I do it before?

If I knew the answer to that question life would be beautiful. I spent the last two weeks with a sinus infection and an abcessed tooth. I just got a root canal this past Tuesday. I was going to do it during the past couple of weeks (I swear)but I was too sick. I was going to get started tonight, but I knew you all are probably wondering what happened to me, so I decided to blog about the basement instead of actually cleaning the basement. That's a good idea, right? I even went down there and took a picture, click below to see it. I couldn't fit everything into the camera frame, but you get the idea.

Anyhoo, tomorrow night after work is basement clean-up. I'll probably need a trip to Target for some storage solutions. Saturday is party prep, Saturday afternoon the party starts, Sunday they all go home. I may be missing for another few days. What are you doing this weekend?

Hey Peeps - I decided to sleep instead of posting a Thursday 13. Please peruse this photo of a gull taken at Acadia National Park in Maine. I didn't know gulls had a red spot on their beaks, or that their feet are purple and they have knobby knees.

My son told me tonight that he's beginning to wonder if I like birds more than him. What would possess him to say such a thing?

Acadia National Park

Here is my son at Acadia National Park in Maine. Everyone went on a nice hike then enjoyed a picnic lunch, except for me. They dropped me off at part of the park called the Precipice, that's where a couple of peregrine falcons raised a family this year.

My son has a clipboard with a spreadsheet he used to count different US State and Canadian Province license plates on our trip. He saw every state except Hawaii, North Dakota and South Dakota. He saw only four of the provinces. This activity keeps him from getting bored on the long car trips. I watched for birds along the way. We actually saw a bald eagle in flight along the NYS Thruway. Unfortunately we were each going fast in opposite directions and I didn't get a picture of it, seeing it was awesome though!

Hiking in this park is so scenic. I don't hike on some of the trails here anymore because the rocky terrain caused injury to my right knee a couple years ago. I only hike on level terrain now, getting old is painful sometimes.

Echo Lake, Maine

Hello Everyone!

We just got back from vacation. One of our destinations was Maine. My brother-in-law and his family live in Maine and they graciously let us stay with them while we were there. They took us to one of their favorite local beaches, Echo Lake. The landscape in Maine is always stunning, so pristine and natural.

I was scanning this cliff face for peregrine falcons, cliffs overlooking water are a favorite natural habitat. I didn't spot any falcons, but I enjoyed looking for them.
