I turned off the word verification on my comments last Saturday, so far I've not seen any spam in my comments.

When you comment on someone's blog do you read all the other comments before you write your comment? Do you read them after you've posted your comment?

Thank you!

Lazy Daisy wrote a post about how she became a "journalist" for the Blog Olympics. This woman needs an outlet for her brilliance!

I think Jake Silver has the coolest profile picture. I'm going to wear sunglasses and strike that pose for my next profile pic! I also like how he's positioned the Hunger site button right above the Fat Fighter's Club button on his sidebar.

I Don't Get It

Spike TV is currently airing episodes of the Three Stooges. My 10 year old son is hooked, he laughs hysterically the whole way through an episode. I don't get it, and a Stanford study, Why Men Like the Three Stooges, tells me why.

I find something disturbing about my son watching this show. Yesterday I was doing the dishes when one of the stooges yells "Shut up you stupid idiot!" That type of language isn't allowed to be spoken in our house, so I don't exactly like the TV doing it either. Twenty minutes later my son was using the word idiot, so my fears were confirmed.

Part of me says "Ban the Stooges" and another part says "Don't be a spoilsport, he loves it, it's not going to cause any long term damage."

Which part should I listen too?

Blog Olympics - Closing Ceremonies

Logo courtesy of Carrie of Cze-Johnson Fever

There are two Olympians who have tied in the medal count.

Running2Ks and Uisce
Drop by their blogs and congratulate them on their Olympic blogging expertise.

Please remember to write exalting posts about them on your blog by the end of January.

Your intrepid and wacky reporter Lazy Daisy is in attendance at these ceremonies. She will have all the news that's fit to print and more over at the Lazy Daisy Log, don't miss it.

There's a big reception tonight for all the Olympians at Carol's place at 10:00 PM EST. She is honoring the bronze medalists who need to up their comments count in preparation for next year's Olympics.

Blog Olympics II will be held in January 2007. Keep training.

In other unrelated news, it looks like David of Sugarloaf Mountain may be innocent. His lawyers, Dewey, Cheatem and Howe, insist that he is a victim of identity theft. They would not allow their client to take a lie detector test, however, David has steadfastly maintained his innocence.

Let the party begin!

I have all your favorite food, beverages and other substances ready for consumption.

Tell me, what's your favorite memory from the blog Olympics?

Blog Olympics - Round 6

Logo courtesy of Carrie of Cze-Johnson Fever

Welcome to Round 6 of the Blog Olympics. This is the final round.

A champion blogger's blog looks good in every browser. Does yours?

Web Browsers:
AOL 6, 7, 8, 9, Firefox 0.x , 1, 1.5, Galeon, Konqueror 3, Mobile Phones, Mozilla 1, MSIE 5, 6, 7, Netscape 3, 4, 7, 8, Opera 7, 8, PDAs, Safari, and WebTV

There are so many browsers, it's impractical to check them all to see how your site looks. What you can do is make sure your site meets World Wide Web Consortiums (W3C) standards. Use this validator to see how many standards your blog fails.

1) Visit your blog and copy the URL for the page. (The whole thing: http://xxxx.xxxx.xxxx)
2) Visit W3c Markup Validation Service and paste the URL into the field labeled Address:
3) Click the little gray box that says check
4) The next page will tell you how many validation errors you have. Before I posted this post here's what I got:

Result: Failed validation, 682 errors

Note: I tried several times and got the same result!!

Post your score in the comments. Use this format:

682 errors

You can post more than once if you manage to lower your score. Save your template before "fixing" any problems.

The lower your number, the better chance you have at winning.

The top 10% of Olympic blogs (those with the least errors) will win a gold medal.

The bottom 10% of Olympic blogs (those with the most errors) will win a bronze medal.

All other Olympic blogs participating in this round will win a silver medal.

Your comment must be posted by 10:00 AM EST, Saturday, January 28, 2006.

Please use the blog that you used in the previous rounds. Good luck!

Blog Olympics - Round 5

Logo courtesy of Carrie of Cze-Johnson Fever

Welcome to Round 5 of the Blog Olympics.

A champion blogger has made their mark on the blogosphere. Do you have presence?

I have above average presence in the blogosphere. How do I know? I looked it up here: MarketLeap

First I typed my URL where it says: Enter your URL here:, I entered bmiers.blogspot.com, no http:// in front of it. Then I typed in the access code shown on the screen, then pressed the orange button that said GENERATE REPORT. On the next page there was a report with my URL listed that said I had 7,054 listings in search engines. What is your presence?

Note: Blogger blogs do not have a www in the URL

Use this format:

7,054

Please check a few times and get your highest score. No need to check the blogger above you.

The higher your number, the better chance you have at winning.

The top 10% of Olympic blogs (those with the most presence) will win a gold medal.

The bottom 10% of Olympic blogs (those with the least presence) will win a bronze medal.

All other Olympic blogs participating in this round will win a silver medal.

Count Down to Round 5

Logo courtesy of Carrie of Cze-Johnson Fever

Hello Olympians! Results will be posted this evening for Round 4.

Gold Medals will be awarded in two categories: Thursday Thirteen posts and Non Thursday Thirteen Posts. This is a one time change for gold medals only in Round 4.

The Blog Olympics are a lot of fun to host, and fun to play.

There are many who wish they could have been part of this but found out about it too late. I would like some feedback on the future of the Blog Olympics.

Should they be a once a year event? Should they be held more often? How often? Should the Olympics travel around to other venues? Should there be a Blog Olympics Committee to administer these more frequent Olympics?

Not knowing what the next round is until game time brings an element of surprise to the game. The participants are not able to prepare, they must already be good at the skills involved. Any future Olympics will not have this feature.

Should the format change? What can be improved?

There are still two more rounds to play. Round 5 tonight and Round 6 tomorrow night. Planning is in process for the closing ceremonies.

Please visit Lazy Daisy's madcap recaps of the Olympics. See the results, the controversies, the athletes, the behind the scenes happenings, she has it all.

Blogger Warning

Olympians - Blogger will be down tomorrow (Wednesday) at 1:00 PM EST for 15 minutes. If this time extends a little longer (say past 10:00 PM EST) I will double up the challenges on Thursday night. In all likelihood Blogger will be available tomorrow night and the Olympics will proceed as planned.

Can you tell that I work in systems support?

Here is the message from Blogger:

Tuesday, January 24, 2006

We'll be taking Blogger down on Wednesday the 25th at 4pm PST to fix a bit of a switch that's gone wonky on us. The outage should last about 15 minutes. Blogger.com and Blog*Spot blogs will be inaccessible during this time.

This repair will fix the problem that caused the brief outage last Friday night. We're also using this down time as an opportunity to tune our databases for more efficient spam catching and deletion.

Blog Olympics - Round 2

Welcome to Round 2 of the Blog Olympics.

A champion blogger makes frequent updates to their blog. How often do you update your blog?

My blog is 191 days old and has 115 posts.

191 days / 115 posts = 1.661 days between posts.

Please figure out how many days between posts you have, use just 3 decimal points. Post the answer in the comments section of this post. Do not count posts written after 10:00 PM EST today.

Tip: A Blogger blog will show the number of posts on the dashboard page.

Use this format:

191 days / 115 posts = 1.661 days between posts.

Here’s a calculator. Please check the answer of the person who comments ahead of you. Leave me an email at blmiers2@yahoo.com if there is a problem.

The smaller your number, the better chance you have at winning.

The top 10% of Olympic blogs (those that post most often) will win a gold medal.

The bottom 10% of Olympic blogs (those that post least often) will win a bronze medal.

All other Olympic blogs participating in this round will win a silver medal.

Your comment must be posted by 10:00 AM EST, Tuesday, January 24, 2006.

Please use the same blog as yesterday.

Blog Olympics - Round 1

A champion blogger is in it for the long haul, and can prove it. How old is your blog?

1) Go find the oldest post on your blog. Note the date it was written.

2) Go to Days since... and enter that date in the input fields. My oldest post is from July 15, 2005. So I will enter 15, 7, 2005 in the three input fields. After I hit enter the site tells me that it has been 191 days since then, so my blog is 191 days old.

3) Enter the age of your blog (in days),the date of the oldest post, and a link to your oldest post in the comments section of this post.

Your comment should be formatted like this:

191 days, July 15, 2005, Trying to Catch Up: First Day Jitters

4) Check the blog in the comment directly above yours for accuracy, I don't want to erroneously award a gold medal. If it's not accurate, please let me know at blmiers2@yahoo.com

The older your blog is, the better chance you have at winning.

The oldest 10% of the Olympian blogs entering this round will receive gold medals.

The youngest 10% of the Olympian blogs entering this round will receive bronze medals.

All other Olympian blogs entering this round will recieve silver medals.

Have your comment posted by 10:00 AM EST tomorrow!

Remember to use the blog you've entered in the Olympics.
