The Blog Olympics
Are your blogging skills a cut above your average blogger? Are you ready to put your skills to the test? Do you think you could go head to head with other bloggers and come out on top? Here is the opportunity you’ve been waiting for to prove your blogging worth! Join the first ever Blog Olympics here at Trying to Catch Up!
12/19 - Update: I've increased the time that you have to complete an activity so that more people can play. You now have 12 hours to complete each activity.
Who can play in the Blog Olympics?
This is an open competition. Anyone who has a blog can play.
When will the Blog Olympics be held?
There will be six rounds held on six consecutive nights. You will participate in all six rounds.
The first round starts at 10:00 PM EST on Sunday, January 22, 2006
The second round starts at 10:00 PM EST on Monday, January 23, 2006
The third round starts at 10:00 PM EST on Tuesday, January 24, 2006
The fourth round starts at 10:00 PM EST on Wednesday, January 25, 2006
The fifth round starts at 10:00 PM EST on Thursday, January 26, 2006
The sixth and final round starts at 10:00 PM EST on Friday, January 27, 2006
What will happen at the Blog Olympics?
I will post the rules for each round promptly at 10:00 PM EST each night. It will ask you to perform or report on some blog related activity. There will be a cut off time to complete the activity, usually 12 hours later. The actual activity will only take a few minutes of your time. Read the top post on this blog and follow the directions. When you have completed the activity you are done for that round. There are no illegal, immoral or fattening activities.
How are the contestant’s scores calculated?
You will be awarded a gold, silver or bronze medal per round. The bloggers with the best scores will be awarded gold medals for that round, the bloggers with the worst scores will be awarded bronze medals for that round, and all other contestants in that round will receive a silver medal.
The bloggers with the best score are those who place in the top 10% (plus ties) of all the bloggers in that round. The bloggers with the worst score are those who place in the bottom 10% (plus ties) of all the bloggers in that round.
I will post all contestants scores after each round by 9:00 PM the next evening.
At the end of the competition, all the medals will be awarded a point value as follows:
2 points – gold medal
1 point - silver medal
0 points – bronze medal
At the end of all the 6 rounds, the maximum score you could earn is 12 points (6 gold medals) and the least is 0. In the event of a tie of the top cumulative score, there will be a tiebreaker round. The tiebreaker round will be played on Saturday morning directly after the competition. Any player who cheats in any round will be disqualified from the competition.

2) Links - Every participant must pledge to post a blog entry that exalts the winner’s abilities as a blogger. The post must include a link to the winner’s blog and be posted by the end of January.

What an awesome idea!!! oh I hope my plane isn;t delayed so I make it into town for the first round....
I'll rest up!
Great! I needed at least 2 contestants! It won't take much time and should be fun! I'm so glad you're participating.
Yikes, I'm...gulp...in.
Yay Carol! It will be fun!
That's seems like an interesting game! Problem is, I don't know what time it is here in Manila, Philippines when it is 10:00PM EST there. I might get left behind.... But I am interested!
Oh, this sounds like fun... alas I will be computerless that whole week - I'm going away. Next time!
Sounds very interesting, but I don't know if I'll be on time every day. But this I do promise, swear and PLEDGE: that I shall post a blog entry that exalts the winner’s abilities as a blogger. That is, of course, unless that winner is me. :)
Sounds intreaguing. I'll give it a go. http://greentuna.blogspot.com
Wow, I wish I could do this--but I promise to gush over the winners. I'm a rockin' cheerleader!
Barbara, you have the best ideas!
Barbara,
This sounds like so much fun but the real time component of it counts me out as I have plans several of the nights . . .boo hoo. You are so CREATIVE though. I love it!
I'll certainly be checking in to watch and cheer.
I will be plugging you on the blog (as soon as blogsome is back up) as my first official clap and cheer act :)
The timeframe might leave me out, but I'm a possible. Interesting idea, though. I hope I can compete.
OK! I'll give it a shot! I'll probably play in the early morning, as I'm (sadly) not an "after 10pm" person typically!!
;-)
Hmmmm, sounds scary, but I'm in!
This sounds like lots of fun! Since my life is about "Trying to catch Up" I am going to pass on participating. I'll tune in to see the winners. Going to vote for you. :)
Lois Lane
I will! I will! I'll do anything for a gold, silver, or bronze.
......well, not ANything.
:)
I'll give it a shot.

I'LL PLAY ALONG BUT DO NOT EVEN CONSIDER MYSELF A WINNER AT CONTESTS AT ALL...I'LL TRY BUT I'M SORT OF BLOG-LESS...AS FAR AS SKILL...BARBRA I MIGHT NEED YOU TO TELL ME IF I NEED TO PROVIDE ANY ADDITION INFO OR WHAT HAVE YOU.. THANKS IT DOES SOUND FUN IF I CAN DO IT..
What a great way to get myself back in to serious blogging. Please sign me up!!

What the hey...I'll give it a whirl too! I'm in!
Oh my! I just heard about this via Empty Celebrations. I'm a complete blogging novice, but I'll give it a shot, too. If nothing else, maybe I'll win accolades for LAST place. I mean 0 points still equals a bronze, right? Right?
Oh, I guess I should say, my name is Stephanie too. Thanks!
What a great idea, Barbara! I'm too chicken, but I'll be watching and cheering over here. I know my mom is super excited - go Lazy Daisy!
Oh what the heck. Why not.
Barbara,
What a FANTASTIC idea...I can't do it this week... but I will be getting out the pompoms for the duration...
